Understand the estimate
A 3 kW element uses 3 kWh when heating continuously for one hour. The estimated running cost is power multiplied by hours multiplied by the rate per kWh.
Make it more accurate
Runtime refers to time the heating element is energised, not the number of hours the geyser holds water warm.
These figures are examples based on editable inputs. They do not represent verified current rates, supplier prices or quotes.
Heating water is a daily habit, not a constant draw
A geyser thermostat switches the heating element on and off. Its rated kilowatts do not mean it runs at full power for every hour the cylinder is on. Actual use depends on hot water drawn, incoming water temperature, cylinder insulation, pipe losses and thermostat settings.
Before relying on the estimate
For a useful household estimate, measure or estimate the element run-time rather than treating the geyser isolator switch position as run-time.
