R22/litre is an illustrative placeholder, not a live SA pump price. Distance also changes with traffic, load, terrain and driving.
How it works

Understand the estimate

Litres are your budget divided by the price per litre. Distance is litres divided by fuel consumption (L/100 km), multiplied by 100. For example, R500 at R22/litre gives 22.7 litres and about 325 km at 7 L/100 km.

Make it more accurate

Use your actual petrol receipt and your car’s real-world average consumption for a better estimate.

These figures are examples based on editable inputs. They do not represent verified current rates, supplier prices or quotes.

Distance is not the same as litres

A petrol budget converts into litres using the pump price. The vehicle then determines possible distance. Your actual consumption changes with traffic, hills, air conditioning, tyres and driving style. A historic average from your trip computer is often more useful than an advertised combined-cycle number.

Try the numbers: At R25 per litre, R500 buys 20 litres. A car using 6 L/100 km might travel around 333 km; one using 10 L/100 km around 200 km. That difference is the reason this calculator displays both quantities rather than a single headline kilometre result.

Before relying on the estimate

Do not plan an exact long-distance journey on the final kilometre shown. Leave a practical reserve and check the price at the actual pump.
